    @kamouii1 with your machine it is probably the battery or the starter

  • kamouii1 says:

    I pull the spark plug and turn the key. The flywheel turn just like in your part 2 video, to see if it was the starter and the battery. What else can it be?

  • donyboy73 says:

    @kamouii1 did u adjust the valves

    great , the mower would start sometimes but, I was looking at carburetor issues and then I thought it was turning over awfully hard so I looked at my rockers and they were barely hanging on. and the intake rod push was bent. i staightened out rod and adjust valve’s ,BOOM my mower runs better than it has in 1 1/2 years and it is 3 years old even with the slightly deformed and weakened rod, I am currently ordering some new ones. thanks you also convinced my stubborn father to check them. not easy

    Hi Dony, Same type motor. Same type issue. So I adjusted the values according to your instructions. I get severe back firing when I tried. Could these be set wrong? I was not certain about the top dead center. Both vlaves all the way out after the compression stroke? I have seen different ways to do this, and after trying about 1 times Cannot get it adjusted properly.

    i have a tecumseh 5hp engine that starts like a charm but it dies maybe 5 secs after starting.. and it spits fuel out of the carb once per revolution as it spins down. i’m thinking the timing is off. and the fuel is squirting out of the carb on the exhaust stroke b/c the intake valve is still open.

    @donyboy73 I’ve got a 2 cylinder b&s 18hp that floods really easy
    it is not an OHV, once it floods, it takes forever to get it started again
    if I take the air filter off, it spits gas out the top of the carb
    I’ve already cleaned the carb and it’s not clogged that I can tell
    any ideas?

  • junekentucky says:

    BTW, you’re doing the rocker alignment by putting the screwdriver in the spark plug hole, that’s the hard way.
    I do it by turning the motor until one of the rockers has fully opened one of the valves and I adjust the other rocker. Then I turn the motor until the one I adjusted is fully depressed (valve opened) and adjust the other rocker. Don’t even have to take out the spark plug or worry about screwdriver marks on the piston. Works great for me.

  • gt181 says:

    @donyboy73 Thanks, after a year of playing with this problem, I came to the conclusion it was a compression issue, and thanks to you it was fixed in 15 min at no cost .if you ever have a carpentry question ask me I owe you one.thanks gary

    I have a 1992 B&S IC 14 HP enigen that has a solenoid what a red cabel that is mounted on the carbuator bowl. What is the use for it and do I really need it?

  • donyboy73 says:

    @siemenstraffic it opens up during operation and turns off when u turn the tracotr off. there is a valve in it that stops fuel from going in the engine when u shut it off, preventing backfire

  • fishinoverhere says:

    i got the same engine and its doing the same thing.i will try this.i hope it works!

  • siemenstraffic says:

    @donyboy73 Thanks for the info! I’m trying to get this IC enigen to run on my Snapper 28106S whitch the stock 10 HP B&S enigen cylnder had deep scoring marks on the cylinder head and wasn’t fesabel to get it rebuilt.
    Since there are 4 cabels that are running from the stator, which pair of cables go to the headlights and other pair to the battery. I can’t find a wirning scamatices over the IC eningen.

    i have kohler command pro 15 engine on my exmark mower and it has become hard to start recently especially when its cold. i thought that it was a throttle linkage adjustment but that didnt help. could the vavles be the issue? i dont think they have been adjusted and we have been using it for landscaping for about 9 or 10 years

  • scbjgs says:

    @brade07 it’s a 4 stroke. haha.

  • Jodbronson says:

    Hi, I had the same problem. I bought it from a guy that didn’t know much about Engine… Anyway… I didn’t adjust anything…. It was hard to turn just like this Video. I lean the Tractor on one side… Drained all the OIL…. BAM…. The Engine turns FREELY again… The OIL was GUMMY. I Put NEW OIL…. Hahahahaha… I paid $50 Bucks for a 16.5 B&S MTD Mower… RUN PERFECT NOW!!!

    *** GUMMY DIRTY OIL or OVER FILLED OIL – WILL DO THE SAME – TRY THAT FIRST !!!

  • donyboy73 says:

    @scbjgs you may want to replace the carb kit and check the flywheel keyway

  • scbjgs says:

    @donyboy73 i’m about to completely tear the carb apart. and that was going to be my last resort. i was trying to not spend anything on it b/c i got it for free and after ripping apart a lawnmower that was also given to me i’m going to make a go kart.

  • brade07 says:

    @scbjgs 2 stroke doesnt have valves (usually), for the most part they use ports in the cylinder wall that expell the exhaust gases, and intake air. Almost all two strokes r hard to start when flooded, most of the time its flooding due to dirty carbs, and it causes the float to stick which floods your engine.

  • kamouii1 says:
